Empires are built on conquest, hierarchy, and repression. The Ottoman legacy includes cultural achievements, but its lasting footprint is too tied to domination to call positive.
By that logic no empire has a positive legacy — Rome, Britain, China all out. The Ottomans preserved diverse communities for centuries and shaped law, art, and cuisine we still draw on.
