The bomb forced Japan's surrender and avoided a mainland invasion that would've killed way more people. Harsh but necessary to end the slaughter.
It also kept the Soviets from grabbing more territory in Japan. A longer war meant the country probably ends up divided in half just like Korea or Germany.
I disagree. Civilians aren’t collateral; ending a war doesn’t justify a massacre.
Yes. Beyond ending the war, it reminded us that great power requires great restraint; it spurred calls for stronger international accords to guard humanity from similar ruin.
Even if it shortened the war, killing civilians is not moral. The ends do not justify such mass slaughter; there were other paths to end the war.
