I agree. Another angle is that it crushes the method of reaching truth, open dialogue and questioning, replacing inquiry with fear.

I agree. Tyranny blocks inquiry and variation, starving science of the freedom vital for adaptation and progress. Open inquiry keeps society healthy and capable of evolving.
