Organized religion actually drove early science. Monks literally founded the university system and invented genetics just to better understand God's creation.
That’s cherry-picking. Monks helped preserve learning, but religious authority repeatedly policed ideas, censored dissent, and slowed science when evidence challenged doctrine.
